About the Role
The Corporate Client Coverage Summer Analyst will join BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking division as a member of the Corporate Client Coverage team. This internship provides high-performing students with hands-on exposure to corporate banking, client coverage, financial analysis, and transaction execution within a global financial institution. Summer Analysts will work alongside Junior Bankers (Analysts and Associates) and Senior Bankers (Vice Presidents, Executive Directors, and Managing Directors) across different clients, industries, and assignments, gaining exposure to the full range of activities performed by a Global Banker. The program offers broad-based experience across five industries: Energy, Consumer, TMT, Industrials, and Infrastructure & Construction.
Key Responsibilities
Client Coverage and Deal Execution
- Support Junior and Senior Bankers in preparing for client meetings, including company research, client presentations, background materials, and briefing notes.
- Assist with the preparation of pitch materials and analysis supporting potential financing, capital markets, transaction banking, and other product opportunities.
- Support live transaction and client-related workstreams, including preparation and coordination of materials, documentation, and follow-up items.
- Conduct research on existing and prospective clients to support relationship development and identification of potential business opportunities.
Financial, Credit, and Industry Analysis
- Analyze company financial statements, operating performance, capital structure, and key credit metrics under the guidance of more experienced bankers.
- Support the preparation of financial models, projections, valuation analysis, and other quantitative work required for client and transaction-related assignments.
- Conduct company, industry, and market research using public filings, market data, and internal resources.
- Assist in the preparation of materials for internal credit and transaction approval processes.
Internal Coordination and Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with Junior and Senior Bankers across different client assignments and industry sectors.
- Coordinate with Product teams, Risk, and other internal stakeholders to gather information and support client deliverables and transaction execution.
- Participate in internal discussions and meetings to develop an understanding of how client opportunities are evaluated and executed across the bank.
- Actively seek guidance and feedback and incorporate it into subsequent work.
Information Management and Reporting
- Support the maintenance of client, pipeline, and profitability information in internal systems.
- Assist with market, company, and industry monitoring relevant to the clients and sectors being covered.
- Ensure that information used in analysis and client materials is accurate, appropriately sourced, and consistently presented.
Level of Complexity and Development
- The Summer Analyst role is designed as an intensive learning experience combining technical development, exposure to client coverage, and participation in real assignments.
- Summer Analysts are expected to demonstrate strong analytical ability, intellectual curiosity, attention to detail, and the capacity to learn quickly.
- As the internship progresses, Summer Analysts will be expected to take increasing ownership of assigned tasks, anticipate next steps, and contribute more independently to team deliverables.
- The internship provides exposure across industries and assignments with the objective of developing broad and transferable banking skills rather than early sector specialization.
Scope of Duties
Summer Analysts will operate as part of the Corporate Client Coverage pool and will have the opportunity to work with different Junior and Senior Bankers throughout the internship. The pool structure is designed to provide broad exposure across Energy, Consumer, TMT, Industrials, and Infrastructure & Construction and to allow interns to experience different clients, types of assignments, and working styles. Summer Analysts are expected to approach all assignments with the same level of commitment and professionalism, whether supporting day-to-day client coverage, financial and credit analysis, a live transaction, an internal process, or a one-off pitch. The objective is to build a strong foundation across the technical, analytical, and professional capabilities required of a Global Banker.
