About the Role

Tesla’s Software Platforms team provides the foundational operating system that powers the in-vehicle experience. We are responsible for the core components (kernel, bootloader, drivers, and other userspace services) that enable Tesla's infotainment software ecosystem. As Tesla advances towards an autonomous future, smooth, reliable, and responsive on-screen experiences become increasingly important. As part of this team, you will be pivotal in improving the performance of existing and next-generation infotainment products across the full software stack.

Key Responsibilities

  • Extract every bit of performance out of the hardware using first principles
  • Own end-to-end latency, throughput, and resource efficiency across kernel, drivers, and userspace
  • Develop and integrate tooling to identify optimization opportunities across the stack
  • Profile and tune CPU, memory and I/O scheduling under real workloads
  • Identify and execute stability improvements as we scale the fleet
  • Bring up next-generation hardware
  • Mentor other engineers and contribute to best practices for high-quality embedded software development

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Excellent C/C++ coding skills, Rust experience preferred
  • Strong Linux kernel fundamentals
  • Significant embedded Linux experience in production
  • Fluency with modern AI/SI engineering workflows
  • Experience with systems performance analysis (profiling, tracing, benchmarking, and root-cause of latency and resource use)
  • Contributions to the Linux kernel or other open source projects, preferred
  • Experience with performance tooling such as perf, ftrace, eBPF, or equivalent, preferred
  • Experience with system-level Android, preferred

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability
