About the Role
At Harvey, we are transforming how legal and professional services operate by combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise. We are reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done. This is an opportunity to help build a generational company at an inflection point, with strong product-market fit and investor support, as we scale fast and define a new category.
The Software Engineer, New Grad joins Harvey's Engineering team, working alongside experienced engineers to build AI-powered systems that serve leading law firms and enterprises. The team's mission is to deliver secure, intuitive, and high-performance application-layer experiences that turn frontier AI capabilities into real customer value. This role offers an accelerated path to ownership, contributing production code to features spanning retrieval, document intelligence, and workflow automation from day one.
We are hiring new grads to start in 2027 across multiple teams and roles, including Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack, Infrastructure, and Applied AI roles.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and ship production-level code across the stack while maintaining high quality, reliability, and security standards.
- Utilize AI-assisted development tools daily and own the quality of all shipped code.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including AI Research, Legal Engineering, Product, and Design to translate problem statements into compelling product experiences.
- Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice development alongside senior and staff engineers.
- Experiment with and evaluate cutting-edge LLMs and AI systems, contributing to platform evolution.
- Potential areas of work include retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data.

- Technical foundation: Strong proficiency in one or more languages such as Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar, and solid general computer science knowledge.
- AI Forward: Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and curious about building LLMs into your own coding workflow.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, with graduation expected between Winter 2026 - Spring 2027.
- Previous internship experience is required.
- Ability to work from our New York or San Francisco office starting in January 2027 and beyond. Relocation support is available.
- Decisiveness: Bias toward action; experience building something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or a past internship.
- Simplicity: Ability to explain complex technical ideas in plain language; seeking the simplest effective solution.
- Job's Not Finished: Proactively seeking feedback and improvement beyond initial completion.
- Past internship experience at an early-stage startup is a plus.
