Design Engineer

About the Role

Recollia is seeking a Design Engineer for its Founding Track, focused on building AI for medical students and doctors. The role involves designing and building the Recollia app for web and mobile, with an emphasis on creating a beautiful and intuitive user experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build the Recollia app (web and mobile) and all its features.
• Own the full journey of each feature, from understanding the problem through user interaction to shipping and iteration.
• Understand problems by talking to students and doctors.
• Design features that are visually distinct and user-friendly.
• Build features that are fast, reliable, and perform well even on mid-range phones with patchy data.
• Ship features, monitor usage, and make improvements.
• Shape the growth of the app, including developing a design system to accelerate future development.
• Ensure the product maintains a cohesive feel as it scales.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Taste: Demonstrated through a portfolio showcasing typography, spacing, color, and motion.
• Ability to create calm interfaces with dense information.
• Understanding of what makes great apps feel great.
• TypeScript and React at production level.
• Experience with React Native with Expo for mobile and Next.js for web.
• Proficiency in creating smooth animation and accessible interfaces.
• Ability to write code that is robust in production.
• Experience shipping code to production independently.
• AI as a creative partner: Experience using tools like Claude, Cursor, and others for design and development.
• Ability to explore multiple design directions rapidly using AI and refine them manually.
• Understanding of AI limitations and the ability to apply personal taste.
• Curiosity about the thinking, study habits, and work of doctors and medical students.
• A critical approach to features, questioning their existence and potential usefulness.

Qualifications

• A portfolio showcasing design skills.
• Production-level experience with TypeScript and React.
• Experience with React Native and Next.js.
• Experience using AI tools in the design and development workflow.
• No degree is required; work and experience are prioritized.

Role Progression

• This role begins as an internship with a stipend of Rs 20,000 and a potential bi-weekly performance-based incentive of Rs 5,000.
• Successful candidates who make Recollia a leading app for medical students can transition to a founding engineer role with equity.
