About the Role
Backend Engineer (Java / Spring Boot)
Full-time, Remote
What you'll work on
- Build and maintain REST APIs in Java and Spring Boot for merchant, partner, and customer apps
- Design PostgreSQL tables and optimize queries
- Work on money flows (bills, taxes, discounts, online payments, refunds)
- Build integrations with: WhatsApp messaging, payment gateways, delivery platforms, and thermal printers
- Push live order updates over WebSockets and use message queues for background work
- Debug production issues from logs and monitoring, then ship fixes
- Agree on API contracts with frontend engineers and make small React changes
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Good Java fundamentals (OOP, collections, exceptions, threads)
- Experience building a REST API with Spring Boot (internship, college, or personal project)
- Comfortable with SQL (joins, indexes, transactions) using PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Understanding of HTTP (methods, status codes, JSON, sessions/tokens)
- Daily Git usage (branches, pull requests, merge conflicts)
- Ability to read unfamiliar code, debug step-by-step, and ask questions
- Focus on accuracy for bills and payments
Qualifications (Good to have)
- React (hooks, API data fetching, forms; TypeScript, Chakra UI, or MUI)
- JPA / Hibernate, Spring Security, JWT
- Message queues (RabbitMQ or Kafka) and WebSockets
- Docker, Linux basics, AWS (EC2, RDS, S3)
- A live side project or experience with real users
- Interest in restaurants, nightlife, or events
