About the Role

TerraFirma is seeking its first in-house IT Field Technician. This is a hands-on, on-site role responsible for ensuring our people, devices, and buildings operate smoothly as the company grows. You will report to the IT Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, set up, and hand off laptops, desktops, iPads, and peripherals for new employees, providing initial guidance.
  • Wipe, reimage, and redeploy returned equipment, and manage end-of-life device retirement.
  • Enroll devices in mobile device management (MDM) platforms and verify successful reporting.
  • Maintain accurate hardware inventory, including asset assignment, serial numbers, and spare parts. Receive and inspect incoming equipment orders.
  • Manage the IT help Slack channel, resolving issues directly or escalating as needed.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, Wi-Fi, printer, sign-in, and application issues for users across Mac, Windows, iPad, and Linux operating systems.
  • Run, terminate, label, and test Cat6/Cat6A network cable.
  • Mount and connect Wi-Fi access points, cameras, and other network devices. Keep network closets and racks organized.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for outside vendors (e.g., low-voltage contractors, ISPs, door access providers).
  • Execute projects as directed by the IT Director, such as device re-enrollments, office moves, and network upgrades.
  • Document fixes and procedures, identify recurring problems, and propose improvements.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Proficiency in setting up and troubleshooting Mac and Windows computers.
  • Clear, friendly communication skills, effective both in person and via Slack.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with a systematic approach to labeling, tracking serial numbers, and following checklists.
  • Demonstrated ownership and follow-through.
  • Familiarity with IP addresses, DHCP, Wi-Fi, and switches.
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Okta, or Slack administration.
  • Experience with iPads/iOS and basic Linux.
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification, or progress towards one.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable setting up and troubleshooting both Mac and Windows computers.
  • Clear, friendly communication with non-technical coworkers.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the habit of labeling, tracking serial numbers, and following checklists.
  • Takes ownership and follows through without being chased.
  • 1+ year of experience in help desk, desktop support, field tech, or a similar hands-on role.
  • Experience running and terminating network cable, or other low-voltage work (cameras, alarms, access control).
  • Exposure to MDM tools.
  • Familiarity with iPads/iOS and basic Linux.
  • Basic networking knowledge.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work on site daily in Buda, TX.
  • Able to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, working on ladders, and pulling cable through ceilings and walls.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel occasionally as needed; a valid passport is a plus.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment.
