About Carpe

Carpe is the fastest growing deodorant brand in the US, with a team of approximately 30 people working together in person in downtown Durham, NC.

About the Role

This role owns the look, feel, and performance of Carpe's website, with a focus on revenue. The site runs on Shopify. You will design and build webpages yourself and ship them.

Your first 90 days will involve redesigning and testing the home page against the current version. Subsequently, you will be responsible for every landing page, funnel, and on-site experience. You will design in Figma, build in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, ship your work, monitor user interaction, and test new versions. Given that most traffic is mobile, you will adopt a mobile-first approach. You will receive input from the head of ecommerce and a conversion consultant, but you will make the final decisions on what ships and own the results. The team heavily utilizes AI tools, and you are expected to do the same, shipping your own designs with tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or others you work fastest with.

Key Responsibilities

  • Redesign the home page and test it within your first 90 days.
  • Design, build, and ship landing pages, funnels, and on-site experiences that lift conversion.
  • Own the front end of the storefront using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • You will have support from the senior developer initially.
  • Run the testing program: frame tests, build them, launch them, analyze results, and ship winners.
  • Monitor session recordings to inform future builds.
  • Ensure every page is pixel-perfect across all screen sizes, with a mobile-first approach.
  • Maintain the design system to ensure site consistency.
  • Proactively identify and fix broken states, slow loads, and misaligned copy before customers do.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • HTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Figma
  • Shopify (Training will be provided; prior experience is not required.)
  • AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code)
  • Liquid (Training will be provided.)

Qualifications

  • You have designed and built webpages yourself and shipped them.
  • You have run A/B tests on a live site and can articulate your learnings.
  • You have a portfolio of site work with demonstrable results.
  • You ship your own designs using AI coding tools.
  • You build mobile-first.
  • You possess strong design taste and can explain your design rationale.
  • You are motivated to own the result, not just the design.
  • You can effectively incorporate input while making final decisions.
  • You aspire to be exceptional in this role.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience from a DTC brand or a conversion-focused ecommerce team.
  • Extensive experience with Liquid and Shopify themes.
  • Experience owning a testing program, not just contributing to one.
  • Proactive attention to page speed and accessibility.

To Apply

Email [email protected] with:

  • A paragraph in your own words (not AI-generated) explaining why you are the right person for this role.
  • A PDF of your resume.
  • A link to your portfolio, highlighting one page you designed and built yourself, along with the metric it moved.

Applying by email is the only accepted method.
