About The Role
Agave is building the financial operations platform for construction, a $12T global industry. We are experiencing significant growth, backed by investors like Accel and Y Combinator. Our team is small, scrappy, and high-caliber, seeking builders to help us grow from a breakout startup to a category-defining company. We offer the benefits of an early-stage startup with reduced risk due to our established customer base and growth momentum.
Key Responsibilities
The specific responsibilities are embedded within the "Interesting Technical Challenges" section.
Interesting Technical Challenges
- Unification: Unifying fragmented systems under a single standard, covering data objects, data models, authentication, account-linking UX, and features like filters and pagination. Designing scalable, generic, and system-agnostic solutions for new features.
- On-prem Integration: Connecting with various on-prem systems (SQL-based, DLL-based, API-based) built 20-40 years ago. Providing secure, fast, and reliable interfaces, supporting real-time communication and webhooks (e.g., using web-sockets).
- Scale & Speed: Handling millions of API requests daily. Storing and retrieving large amounts of data efficiently for products powered by our API (e.g., Analytics), building caching layers to reduce latency. Shipping code daily and iterating quickly based on customer feedback.
- Operational Excellence: Creating a reliable API layer on top of systems without existing APIs. Innovating in expanding integration depth and breadth while increasing development velocity. Developing scalable testing frameworks to catch edge cases and bugs across 1k+ endpoints.
- Back-end and Front-end Mix: Building front-end applications that dog-food our own APIs. Implementing both foundational API components and higher-level features like caching and advanced filtering.
- Variety of Integrations: Researching and building integrations for unique systems, each posing distinct challenges.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- No prior experience with our specific tech stack is required.
- No prior experience in B2B SaaS/API companies is required.
Qualifications
- Exceptional college grads with strong intern/co-op experience, ideally from a top undergraduate university.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
- Self-motivated, high ownership, low ego.
- Desire to work on a fast-paced, intense, fun team.
- Passion for building a world-class engineering culture.
- Pumped to work in-person in SF 5 days/week.
