About the Role
As an Associate within the Capital Markets (CM) Legal team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our dynamic and fast-paced debt capital markets business across Europe and the Middle East. You will provide expert legal advice, ensure regulatory compliance, and help drive innovative legal solutions for complex transactions. Your work will span a range of products and jurisdictions, and will require close collaboration with business partners, control teams, and external counsels. You will draw on your knowledge of capital markets and the regulatory framework to provide practical legal advice that supports the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support primarily to the CM business across EMEA (including the UK, continental Europe and the Middle East), with a focus on EMTN program related matters and ECP program related matters.
- Serve as an integral part of the EMEA Banking Legal Practice Group, collaborating daily with legal colleagues in Mumbai and London, and interacting with legal teams in other regions (such as US and APAC).
- Partner closely with the CM Legal Team, coverage bankers, DCM and Syndicate Desks and other stakeholders in connection with EMTN program related matters (including establishment, annual updates and drawdowns, syndicated and reverse inquiry trades), ECP program related matters and other select DCM deals.
- Lead the review, negotiation and/or drafting of legal documentation such as program/dealer agreements, subscription agreements, dealer accession letters, auditor comfort letters and related documentation, ensuring alignment with internal guidance and standard operating procedures.
- Manage relationships with external counsels in connection with EMTN and ECP program related matters, including the review and negotiation of legal opinions and disclosure letters.
- Keep abreast of legal and regulatory developments and contribute to knowledge management and enhancement of internal processes and best practices.
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer in India with a minimum of two years of post-qualification experience, licensed or otherwise eligible to practise law and in compliance with the applicable in-house counsel registration requirements.
- Capital markets or banking law experience gained at a leading law firm or within a leading international financial institution.
- Strong legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills, with close attention to detail.
- Pragmatic and commercially minded, with the ability to balance business objectives with the protection of JPMorganChase's overall interests.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with senior business leaders and stakeholders across functions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage matters across time zones, balance competing priorities, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain high standards in a dynamic global environment.
- Self-directed and highly motivated, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a high-performing team.
