Backend Engineer

About the Role

You will be the first engineer dedicated to our go-to-market team. You will build and own the backend systems that our BDRs and AEs use daily, including data pipelines, integrations, internal services, and AI agents. You will replace individual setups with a central, reliable system that scales with the company. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on writing code, connecting APIs, and building data pipelines and AI workflows. You will report to the Head of GTM, work closely with Sales, and exchange with the Engineering team on architecture and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Data pipelines: Design and build pipelines to ingest account and contact data from multiple sources and APIs, clean, deduplicate, and score it, and sync it to the CRM as the single source of truth.
• Data layer: Design the data model and central database for GTM, connecting CRM, outreach, and product data.
• Integrations & services: Integrate internal and third-party tools via REST APIs and webhooks, and build internal services and tools.
• Signals & automation: Build signal detection, lead scoring and routing, and alerts to guide sales outreach.
• AI agents: Build AI-powered tools and agents to automate repetitive tasks for AEs, such as research, proposal generation, and CRM updates.
• Reliability: Deploy, schedule, monitor, and maintain all built systems, focusing on error handling, retries, rate limits, logging, and alerts.
• Ownership end-to-end: Investigate problems, find root causes, ship fixes, and document solutions to ensure system stability and knowledge sharing.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Python (or another backend language)
• SQL
• Data modeling
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs
• Experience working with webhooks
• Git
• Deployment, scheduling, testing, logging, and debugging
• Understanding of system dependencies and component interactions
• Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and LLM APIs (e.g., Claude Code, Claude API)
• Experience building and shipping real-world projects (features, services, data pipelines, internal tools)
• Remote communication skills, especially in writing
• Nice to have: Experience with AWS or GCP, a data warehouse, a CRM and its API, or GTM tools like Clay.

Qualifications

• Recent graduate (0–2 years) in Computer Science or a related engineering field with a strong academic record.
• 1+ years of backend experience through internships or a first full-time job in a startup environment.
• Smart, structured problem-solver and fast learner, capable of picking up new tools independently.
• Independent, proactive, and comfortable working remotely.
• You build systems that run reliably at scale.
• You are curious about the business and its impact on customer acquisition.
• You take ownership of your work and are comfortable leading projects.
• You are willing to work closely with Sales and end-users of your tools.
