About the Role
KBR is seeking highly motivated and talented students to join our Defense & Intel Internship Program for Summer 2027. This internship offers hands-on experience, professional development, and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that support national security and advanced technology initiatives. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals on real-world assignments, gaining exposure to technical and operational challenges while building valuable skills and industry knowledge.
Key Responsibilities
- Support analysis of radar, sensor, or similar system data, including preprocessing, noise removal, and feature extraction.
- Implement and evaluate computer vision or image-processing algorithms, potentially involving object detection, tracking, or image enhancement (if background allows).
- Assist with simulation, modeling, or data-driven studies related to aerospace or mechanical engineering concepts (e.g., kinematic relationships, sensor geometries).
- Develop, test, and validate algorithms that use vector math, including dot/cross products, coordinate frame transformations, and geometric projections.
- Perform basic digital signal processing (DSP) tasks such as filtering, Fourier analysis, and time–frequency characterization using MATLAB or Python.
- Contribute to the design or improvement of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) for internal tools using MATLAB App Designer, Python frameworks, or other UI technologies.
- Document code, results, and methodology clearly to support team collaboration and future reuse.
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot software or algorithm issues, iterating solutions from initial concept to tested implementation.
- Present progress in team meetings and provide written summaries of findings, ensuring technical clarity and attention to detail.
- Work both independently and as part of a small technical team, taking ownership of assigned tasks and driving them to completion.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Full-time rising junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a degree in Software Engineering or a related science or engineering field (e.g., Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Mathematics).
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB for data analysis, modeling, and basic algorithm development.
- Solid understanding of vector math, including dot products, cross products, coordinate transformations, and geometric projections.
- Strong problem-solving ability with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a technical team environment.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
Work Schedule: Average 40 hours per week, 12 weeks in duration during Summer 2027.
Compensation: $18 - $35 per hour.
