About the Role

The DUV Reticle Stage IBS MDU team is seeking an Electrical Engineering co-op student to support engineering activities for the reticle stage, a critical precision mechatronic subsystem in ASML’s DUV lithography systems. The role involves investigating and qualifying alternatives to existing LEMO electrical connectors. This is a hands-on hardware engineering challenge involving electrical design, component selection, testing, and qualification. This position is located on-site in Wilton, CT, and requires 6 to 9 months of availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate existing LEMO connector applications and understand their electrical, mechanical, and environmental requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and subject-matter experts to identify and document critical connector requirements and constraints.
  • Research commercially available connector technologies and potential suppliers for viable alternatives.
  • Support the development and evaluation of new or modified connector concepts.
  • Develop a structured method to compare candidate solutions against existing requirements.
  • Plan and execute engineering tests to characterize promising connector alternatives.
  • Analyze test results to identify performance gaps, risks, and opportunities.
  • Review findings with engineers across disciplines to determine suitability for further qualification.
  • Document requirements, test methods, results, and engineering conclusions for team reuse.

Requirements & Tech Stack

  • Strong foundation in electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuits, signals, and electrical measurements.
  • Experience with common electrical laboratory equipment such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, component specifications, and supplier datasheets.
  • Interest in electrical hardware, connectors, cabling, component selection, and hardware testing.
  • Ability to develop a structured test approach, collect measurement data, and draw engineering conclusions.
  • MATLAB, Python, or similar engineering analysis tools are beneficial but not required.
  • Previous experience with connector design, signal integrity, reliability testing, or electromechanical hardware is beneficial but not required.

Qualifications

  • College junior or senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering field.
  • Available for a 6-month co-op assignment.
  • Strong curiosity and willingness to investigate unfamiliar technical problems.
  • Comfortable approaching engineers and subject-matter experts for information.
  • Ability to systematically break down open-ended engineering problems.
  • Hands-on mindset and enthusiasm for building test setups and working with physical hardware.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while actively seeking input and collaborating.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and presenting recommendations.
