About the Role
Join the team building Optimum's internal omni-channel API platform. You will contribute primarily to API and backend service development under senior engineer guidance, with opportunities to support user-facing capabilities through coordination with presentation-layer engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to API and service development using Go and gRPC, working within established platform patterns and team standards.
- Support implementation and evolution of service endpoints, Protocol Buffer contracts, and related client integrations.
- Help extend and maintain API capabilities that connect platform services to internal and external consumers.
- Participate in investigation and resolution of issues across API, service, and integration boundaries.
- Write and maintain automated tests using Go test frameworks, with focus on validating API behavior and integration outcomes.
- Collaborate with senior engineers on feature delivery, code review, and iterative improvement within GitLab CI-supported workflows.
- Support user-facing feature delivery where needed, working through well-defined API contracts and cross-team coordination.
- Participate in agile delivery practices, including Jira-driven and acceptance-criteria-based development.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Foundational skills in Go or another modern backend language, with willingness to develop proficiency in our backend stack.
- Basic understanding of REST or RPC-style APIs, service-oriented design, and HTTP-based communication.
- Familiarity with Git, collaborative development workflows, and working within CI-supported delivery pipelines.
- Willingness to learn platform technologies, domain concepts, and team engineering practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 0–2 years of professional software development experience, or equivalent academic and project experience.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working in a team-oriented environment.
Preferred
- Familiarity with Protocol Buffers, gRPC, or contract-first API development concepts.
- Experience with unit or integration testing in backend service environments.
- Interest in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, and private clouds) and cloud-native service development.
- Willingness to collaborate with presentation-layer teams on API contract alignment.
