About the Role

To support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of backend software components and database systems for advanced in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) platforms, including automated clinical chemistry and immunoassay analyzers. The role involves SQL database development, data modeling, backend logic, data integration, and performance optimization to ensure reliable storage, retrieval, processing, and traceability of diagnostic instrument data in accordance with medical device software quality practices.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Development & R&D Support

  • Develop and maintain backend software components for diagnostic instrument applications.
  • Implement business logic, data processing workflows, validation rules, and database-driven functionalities.
  • Support integration between backend services, desktop applications, and diagnostic instrument subsystems.
  • Write clean, modular, maintainable, and testable code using appropriate backend technologies.
  • Assist in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving backend software issues.

SQL Database Design & Development

  • Design, develop, and maintain relational databases using SQL Server, SQLite, or other relevant database technologies.
  • Create and maintain database schemas, tables, views, stored procedures, functions, indexes, and queries.
  • Develop efficient SQL queries for data storage, retrieval, reporting, and analysis.
  • Support database operations involving sample information, test orders, calibration records, quality control (QC) data, diagnostic results, instrument configurations, and system logs.
  • Assist in database performance optimization, query tuning, indexing, and troubleshooting.
  • Implement appropriate data validation, integrity constraints, transaction management, and error handling.

Diagnostic Data Management & Integration

  • Support reliable data handling for automated clinical chemistry and immunoassay diagnostic systems.
  • Assist in developing data workflows for sample tracking, test execution, result processing, calibration, and quality control.
  • Support data exchange between instrument software, backend services, and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), where applicable.
  • Work with data formats and interfaces such as JSON, XML, CSV, REST APIs, and relevant laboratory communication protocols.
  • Ensure consistency and traceability of diagnostic data across software modules and system components.

Data Security, Reliability & Quality

  • Assist in implementing database backup, recovery, and data integrity mechanisms.
  • Support transaction handling and recovery strategies to minimize data loss and maintain system consistency.
  • Follow appropriate access control, authentication, authorization, and secure data handling practices.
  • Support audit trail and event logging requirements wherever applicable to diagnostic software workflows.
  • Participate in software testing, database validation, defect investigation, and root-cause analysis.
  • Follow applicable software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices and contribute to compliance with IEC 62304 and ISO 14971 requirements under the guidance of senior engineers.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Documentation

  • Collaborate with application developers, embedded software engineers, hardware teams, system engineers, and verification and validation teams.
  • Support integration testing between backend services, SQL databases, and diagnostic instrument applications.
  • Prepare database design documents, technical specifications, test cases, and troubleshooting reports.
  • Maintain version control for database scripts and support controlled software releases.
  • Participate in code reviews and follow established development standards.

Innovation & Continuous Learning

  • Contribute to R&D initiatives focused on diagnostic automation, laboratory data management, and next-generation healthcare technologies.
  • Explore opportunities to improve database performance, data processing efficiency, and backend reliability.
  • Support feasibility studies, proof-of-concept development, and new software feature implementation.
  • Continuously enhance technical knowledge of database technologies, backend development, and medical device software engineering.

Qualifications and Experience

  • B.E. / B.Tech. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • MCA / M.Sc. Computer Science or an equivalent relevant qualification may also be considered.
  • Fresh graduates or candidates with up to 2 years of relevant software development or database experience.
  • Strong fundamentals in SQL, relational database concepts, and database design.
  • Academic projects, internships, or practical exposure to backend development and database management will be preferred.
  • Exposure to healthcare software, laboratory information systems, medical devices, or diagnostic instrumentation will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong foundational knowledge of SQL queries, joins, subqueries, aggregate functions, and database relationships.
  • Understanding of relational database design, normalization, primary and foreign keys, constraints, and indexes.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server and/or SQLite; PostgreSQL or MySQL experience is also valuable.
  • Basic knowledge of backend programming using C# and .NET.
  • Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, XML, and application-database integration.
  • Awareness of transactions, concurrency, exception handling, and database performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with Git, debugging, unit testing, and software development practices.
  • Basic understanding of data security, backup, recovery, and audit logging.
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
