About the Role

WEX is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate student in Computer Science or a related field to join our Data, AI, and Risk Technology (DART) team as a Summer Intern. This 13-week paid internship program runs from late May to mid-August and offers a chance to gain real-world experience and develop skills. You will work on impactful projects contributing to WEX’s mission, focusing on cutting-edge AI/ML applications, our next-generation agentic AI platform, Big Data, and fraud and credit risk technologies in the FinTech industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to impactful projects leveraging AI/ML to address business needs like fraud prevention, credit risk assessment, and real-time decision-making.
• Build and enhance the agentic AI platform by developing intelligent agents to automate workflows and assist decision-making.
• Develop advanced platforms and tools for data processing, enrichment, and optimization.
• Design, implement, and evaluate AI/ML models.
• Gain experience with big data tools and technologies for data ingestion, processing, and analysis.
• Collaborate with experienced engineers and researchers to brainstorm solutions and contribute to innovative projects.
• Present research findings and project outcomes to the team and stakeholders.

Requirements & Tech Stack

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, or a related field, with at least Sophomore year completed by the internship start.
• Proficient in coding (Python, Java, Go, etc.).
• Skilled in automated testing and system monitoring.
• Solid understanding of machine learning algorithms, techniques, and best practices.
• Experience with data analysis, manipulation, and visualization.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
• Contributions to open-source projects or publications.
• Familiarity with data ingestion, cleaning, processing, enrichment, SQL, data warehouses, ELT, AI/ML, and anomaly detection.
• Strong desire to solve customer and business problems.
• Desire to learn robust design solutions.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Highly motivated, curious, and eager to explore new technologies, including proactively utilizing GenAI tools.
• Enthusiasm for working with big data technologies, AI/ML, risk engineering, and cloud infrastructure.
