About the Role
The SAP Master Data Support Engineer provides application maintenance and support (AMS) for SAP ECC master data, primarily in Materials Management (MM) and the material master lifecycle. The role primarily handles SAP master-data support tickets raised by end users; Snowflake data engineering is secondary. The engineer partners with end users and business and technical teams to resolve issues, maintain data quality, and coordinate improvements.
Work hours follow an EMEA-aligned shift that overlaps with the European workday.
Work Location: Bangalore
Work Mode: Hybrid (3 Days in office)
Shift Timing - 11:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and improve SAP master data processes and solutions that support business needs.
- Manage end-user tickets for SAP MM master data support: triage requests, investigate issues, coordinate with relevant teams, keep end users who submitted tickets informed, and follow through to resolution.
- Create, maintain, and validate material master data in accordance with established standards and governance requirements.
- Coordinate plant, MRP, and storage-location extensions, GTIN/EAN updates, and related routing dependencies.
- Use SQL to investigate data issues, validate records, analyze data, and support exception monitoring and reporting.
- Support SAP master data loads and integrations.
- As a secondary responsibility, contribute to Snowflake data-engineering activities such as data modeling, transformations, and ingestion.
- Assess country-specific master data needs and support related configuration or enhancement work in collaboration with the appropriate technical and business teams.
- Improve mass-load processes, data quality controls, documentation, and operational monitoring.
- Maintain and regularly update knowledge documents that track new or changed custom SAP jobs and custom T-codes, including their purpose and support guidance.
- Translate stakeholder requirements into practical master data solutions; provide clear written and verbal status updates, risks, and recommendations to end users and technical and non-technical teams; and proactively manage follow-up.
- Contribute to testing, documentation, version control, code quality, and production support for assigned changes and processes.
- Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to colleagues through collaboration and constructive feedback.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Demonstrated experience supporting SAP master data processes, particularly SAP ECC Materials Management and the material master.
- Hands-on experience with SAP integration and data-load technologies, particularly ALE/IDoc and LSMW.
- Working proficiency in SQL to investigate, validate, and analyze data.
- Experience applying data standards, governance practices, and quality controls.
- Ability to understand business processes and translate functional needs into data solutions.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn unfamiliar data sets and business domains quickly and adapt to changing priorities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with a proactive, customer-focused approach to stakeholder management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Snowflake and data engineering, including data modeling, dbt-based transformations, SQL optimization, stored procedures, or Python-driven data ingestion.
- Experience with customer, supplier, or finance master data in addition to material master data.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow for submitting, tracking, and managing requests, incidents, changes, and related workflows.
- Experience providing technical guidance or leading hands-on delivery for projects.
- Familiarity with Git, code review, and CI/CD practices.
- Experience working in project-based environments with changing priorities or short-term assignments.
