About the Role

Colonial Oil Industries uses Energy Trading and Risk Management (ETRM) software for its operations, which include supplying and marketing refined products and marine fuels. This software captures trades, schedules and moves product, tracks inventory, values positions, and settles and invoices counterparties. The IT Business Analyst I – ETRM role will support the business users of these systems (traders, schedulers, supply and logistics, operations, accounting) and assist with configuring and troubleshooting other essential systems. Domain knowledge of commodity trading is not required on day one; the company seeks individuals who are analytical, curious, detail-oriented, and interested in learning about physical and financial energy markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Learn the end-to-end trade lifecycle, including deal capture, confirmation, scheduling and logistics, inventory movement, valuation, settlement, invoicing, and accounting hand-off, and how the ETRM platform supports each step.
  • Provide day-to-day application support by triaging user questions and issues, reproducing problems, documenting them clearly, and driving them to resolution with internal teams or the software vendor.
  • Investigate data questions using SQL, validating volumes, prices, positions, and invoice amounts across source systems and the ETRM database.
  • Document current-state processes through written procedures, process maps, and swim-lane diagrams; maintain reference material and terminology glossaries.
  • Gather and write requirements for enhancements and projects, translating business needs into specifications for developers and configurators.
  • Support testing by building test cases, executing functional and regression testing, and tracking defects to closure.
  • Assist with user onboarding, security group and permission setup, and training material.
  • Support system interfaces and scheduled jobs, such as market data feeds, pricing, and accounting exports, including monitoring and basic troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to implementation, upgrade, and system replacement projects, including data validation, reconciliation, cutover checklists, and post-go-live support.
