System Software Engineer-Intern

About the Role

Upconnect Labs is building an observability and security platform and is looking for students and fresh graduates to help develop lightweight Linux monitoring agents.

What You'll Do

• Develop components for Linux-based monitoring agents.
• Help collect system metrics and process information.
• Write, test, and debug code with guidance from the engineering team.
• Help improve agent reliability and resource usage.
• Participate in code reviews and document your work.

Requirements & Tech Stack

Working knowledge of ONE of the following options:

• C & Go: Comfortable with pointers, structs, and memory allocation in C; functions, slices, maps, and error handling in Go.
• Rust: Comfortable with ownership, borrowing, structs, collections, and error handling.

You should also have:

• A good understanding of programming fundamentals and basic data structures.
• Familiarity with the Linux command line and the ability to build and run programs.
• A basic understanding of processes, threads, and memory.
• The ability to write small programs independently, troubleshoot errors, and explain your code.
• At least one hands-on project using the relevant language(s)—academic or personal projects are welcome.

Qualifications

• No prior industry experience is required, but practical programming ability is expected.
• You should be comfortable discussing a project you have built and explaining your contribution.

Good to Have (Not Mandatory)

• Basic networking knowledge (e.g., TCP/IP or HTTP).
• Familiarity with Git.
• Exposure to monitoring tools, Docker, or eBPF.

Internship Details

• Stipend: Rs. 10,000/- per month for 6 months.
• Employment Type: Internship.
