About the Role
Anduril Industries is a defense technology company focused on transforming military capabilities with advanced technology. The Lethality team designs, builds, tests, and fields mechanical warhead and ordnance systems that integrate directly with Anduril platforms. This role involves working across mechanical design, manufacturing, analysis, testing, safety, and vehicle integration to quickly move new concepts from idea to tested hardware. The team is hands-on, ideal for engineers who want to design new products, solve difficult problems, and see their decisions become real hardware.
About the Job
The Lethality Team is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop the next generation of warhead and ordnance systems. You will design new mechanical hardware, collaborate with those building it, test your designs, and use results to drive improvements. Strong mechanical engineers with practical design experience, sound engineering judgment, curiosity, and the ability to learn a specialized domain quickly are sought.
Key Responsibilities
- Design new mechanical hardware from requirements and early concepts through detailed CAD, drawings, fabrication, assembly, and test.
- Turn engineering ideas into manufacturable products by making practical decisions around materials, tolerances, interfaces, manufacturing methods, cost, and assembly.
- Build, test, and improve designs by working directly with manufacturing, technicians, analysis, and test teams to identify problems and drive the next iteration.
- Integrate hardware into larger systems by partnering with vehicle, systems, safety, and other engineering teams to resolve interfaces and technical tradeoffs.
- Grow technical ownership by progressing from defined components and workstreams toward increasingly independent subsystem design and decision-making.
Impact You'll Have
- Deliver new lethality hardware that directly supports U.S. and allied warfighters.
- Take products from early concepts to physical hardware instead of maintaining legacy designs.
- Develop specialized expertise in warhead and ordnance engineering alongside experienced technical leaders.
- See the direct impact of engineering decisions through manufacturing, integration, and live testing.
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 2+ years of professional mechanical design experience taking physical hardware from initial concept through fabrication and functional test.
- Proficiency in parametric 3D CAD (NX, SolidWorks, or Creo) and modern PLM/PDM environments (e.g., Teamcenter).
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings and practical application of ASME Y14.5 GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Hands-on prototyping and fabrication experience, including root-cause analysis of manufacturing and hardware defects.
- Coursework or professional experience applying statics, dynamics, material selection, heat transfer, and structural mechanics to hardware design problems.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance.
- Subject to pre-employment and randomized substance screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience in defense, aerospace, or other highly regulated hardware development environments.
- Proficiency with FEA tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, or equivalent) for structural, thermal, or dynamic analysis.
- Experience with naval ordnance, warheads, energetic materials, DoD weapons safety boards, high-rate dynamic modeling, or live-fire arena testing.
- Active U.S. Security Clearance (DoD Secret, Top Secret, or DOE Q).
- Some roles may require travel for field or range testing (up to 25%).
US Salary Range
$129,000—$171,000 USD
Benefits
- Highly competitive equity grants.
- Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, available at little to no cost to employees, supporting health, recovery, and future needs.
