About Proper Voltage
Proper Voltage is unlocking the next generation of battery technology across robotics, data centers, and defense. We're building intelligent battery systems that make advanced chemistries (sodium-ion, lithium-titanate, lithium-silicon) work in products that were never designed for them.
Job Overview
We’re building high-performance battery and power systems, and we need an Associate Electrical Engineer to support the design, testing, and release of our electronics. You will work directly with senior electrical engineers, PCB designers, and the mechanical and manufacturing teams to take battery management and power electronics from concept to production hardware.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design of battery management systems (BMS), DC-DC converters, and power distribution circuits
- Draw schematics and select components in Altium Designer
- Run bring-up, testing, and debugging on prototype hardware
- Take bench measurements and write up results, including efficiency, thermal, and protection behavior
- Review PCB layouts with the layout team and help resolve design issues
- Maintain BOMs, test procedures, and design documentation
- Support design verification and compliance testing
- Work with manufacturing and suppliers to resolve build and sourcing issues
Requirements & Tech Stack
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field
- 0 to 3 years of hands-on electrical engineering experience, including internships
- Solid understanding of analog and digital circuit fundamentals
- Experience using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and electronic loads
- Working knowledge of at least one of the following:
- Power electronics (buck/boost converters, switching regulators)
- Battery systems or battery management
- Microcontroller-based hardware
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Ability to learn quickly and work with limited supervision in a startup environment
Qualifications
- Experience with Altium Designer or another schematic and layout tool
- Experience with lithium-ion battery systems or BMS
- Familiarity with communication interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, and UART
- Basic scripting for test automation or data analysis (such as Python)
- Startup, small-team, or hardware project experience
- Familiarity with UL, IEC, or automotive standards
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $70,000 - $90,000 depending on experience and qualifications
- Equity options as part of the compensation package
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage
